North to Alaska!

In less than a week I’ll be traveling north to Alaska to teach at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. I’ve been teaching there each July since 1999 and it’s become one of the highlights of my year. I love watching my piano students become comfortable with improvisation, and I also teach vocal performance classes as well as perform. It’s a great way to recharge my batteries and the people in Fairbanks are warm and welcoming!

To begin preparing for the trip, I took a few minutes to listen to a few “Alaska” songs. Here are a few I found, in reverse chronological order:

Listening to these songs gives me a better sense of Alaskan culture. Have fun listening to one or more of these, and while you’re at it, why don’t you see if there’s any music written about your own travel destinations? You might find some music that enriches your experience while you’re there!
