Getting a head start on the New Year

It was about 15 months ago that I began writing my 400 page book, The Jazz Pianists’ Ultimate Guide To The Real Book. The idea is to take each tune in The Real Book, and put together an introduction to help you get to know the tune better. I begin each page by writing down what I would say to you in person “Make sure you learn this tune first, because everyone plays it at jam sessions… etc.” Then I link to several important recordings of the tune. This is followed by some of my musical ideas about the tune and some practice tips. Also included are links to articles and videos for further study. In short, I’m includig everything you need to know in order to get a good start with learning each of the 400 jazz tunes in The Real Book.

My original plan was to complete the book within a year. But as with so many things in our lives, I got busy doing other projects and only managed to complete 324 pages until now.

So… on this last day of the year 2017, I’m going to get a head start on my 2018 New Year’s resolution to finish the book as soon as possible. Here are the pages for next 6 tunes in my Real Book guide. Just pick the one that interests you most and dive in. Good luck with your piano pianing in 2018 and beyond!
