Everybody’s looking for rhythmic patterns to play, but at some point they become limiting. (And that point is a lot sooner than you might think!)
Even when I was a 13-year old guitarist, I preferred to “find my own way,” inventing rhythms as I went along. Sure, you don’t have a rhythmic safety net this way, but you’ll become a much better player in the long run.
Start by learning a few rhythmic patters to play on your favorite tunes, and then abandon them as quickly as possible. (Don’t worry, you’ll still have them when you need them!)
